Things To Do

Mother Nature is ready to take you in her arms and soothe your soul. She's right outside the door, waiting for you to explore the mountains, creeks, rivers, wildflowers, and old growth forests.

Pull on your boots and head to the woods. Explore miles of trails on some of the country's premier trail systems in designated wilderness areas and national forests. Hike the Appalachian Trail, the Benton-MacKaye Trail, and the Fires Creek Wilderness Trail.
Our mountains are laced with waterfalls. Visit the majestic Whitewater Falls, one of the highest falls east of the Mississippi. Or, follow the path behind and under the roaring Dry Falls. You can also find small but beautiful cascades in streams and creeks all around the area.

The mountain ranges that we call home are well-known for their many fly-fishing streams and creeks. With the Nantahala, Chattahoochee and Pisgah National Forests within a short drive, you'll find some of the most pristine trout fishing imaginable. You can also fish for Small and Large-mouth Bass, Crappie, Sunfish and more in nearby Lake Chatuge.

North Carolina has been named the "#1 Vacation with a Splash." Professional outfitters offer your choice of whitewater intensity, so no experience is necessary. Landlubber? Head over to the Ocoee and watch kayakers tackle some of the fiercest rapids around. Or, rent a paddleboard, kayak or canoe and explore the calmer rivers and nearby Lake Chatuge.

Watch craftsmen at work at the John C. Campbell Folk School. Local galleries offer selections from hundreds of local artists. Mountain music and dance reflect the Scots-Irish heritage of the people who settled the region. Listen to local musicians in concert at Hayesville's historic town square and the nearby Tusquittee Tavern.

Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and come to Blackwell Branch Cabin in North Carolina, where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the Tusquittee Valley. Our cabin is located in a beautiful, secluded area, far from the tourists and traffic of Asheville, Highlands/Cashiers, and Maggie Valley. We are the perfect home base for all sorts of outdoor activities, from boating and swimming on Lake Chatuge to white-water rafting, hiking, fishing, and mountain biking.

In addition to our stunning natural surroundings, we also have a vibrant community with plenty of activities to keep you entertained. There are antique shops, flea markets, and thrift shops galore for shopping and just plain junking. Spring, summer, and fall are festival seasons with everything ranging from tractor parades on the Square to our now nationally-famous Pumpkin' Chunkin' in October and the not-to-be-missed Possum Drop on New Year's Eve.

Reviews

Trail along the creek was my favorite! We enjoyed our time here, and we would definitely stay here again. The cabin was very well stocked with everything that you could need, and it was very clean and secure. The creek is beautiful and as their description mentioned you could hear it clearly from the house. Very relaxing and tranquil. The kids absolutely loved meandering down to the creek to throw rocks in and walk (carefully) through the water. My husband caught several fish in the pond near the house. The trail along the creek was my favorite. The surrounding area is so peaceful to drive through. The only thing I’d like to mention to other travelers not from the area is to be prepared to have little to no cell service if you do not have Verizon. Make sure before you leave the house to have your destination ready to go on your phone, because you surely won’t have service in a lot of areas. Despite this we always made it back to the house with little to no trouble. Lindsay & Chris B
Right on the water! Cabin was awesome and it was right on the water. Enjoyed the quiet property. Lots of places to walk and observe the wildlife. Will be going back soon with more family to share the experience. Kevin & Tine S.
Treats for the kids and dogs! We had a wonderful time at the cabin. The owners were very attentive and even brought treats for the kids and the dogs. The cabin was one of the cleanest we’ve ever rented and we appreciated the privacy and quiet location. Would definitely return! Justin & Amber B.
